Upper Marlboro, MD – A 26-year old Clinton man has been sentenced for an attempted robbery of a 7-Eleven in Landover Hills. Sean Johnson was sentenced to 15 years, with all but 5 suspended, for being a felon in possession of a firearm and 20 years, will all but 10 suspended, for attempted armed robbery.
Johnson pled guilty to the charges on November 15.
Johnson went into a convenience store on July 30, 2019 at about 12:30 p.m. with a sawed-off shotgun concealed in a gym bag. Surveillance video showed that the shotgun fell on the floor as he was taking it from the bag. As he picked it up and pointed it at the cashier, a nearby customer grabbed the gun barrel to prevent Johnson from robbing the store. Then, the two began to wrestle with each other over the weapon. Johnson hit the customer with the gun leaving him with a black eye and other injuries.
Following today’s sentencing State’s Attorney Aisha N. Braveboy said she is pleased with the outcome. “Mr. Johnson presented a danger to the community. He has a long criminal history of violent offenses,” said Braveboy. “Our job is to protect the community and I believe today’s sentence does that and sends a message that we won’t tolerate crime in Prince George’s County.”
