
UPDATE: Armed Man Shot By Deputy In California, MD — Police Release New Details
CALIFORNIA, Md. — A man was airlifted to a trauma center Wednesday evening, July 23, after being shot by police near San Souci Plaza in California, Maryland.
The shooting occurred around 6:00 p.m. in the area of 22576 MacArthur Boulevard. According to initial dispatch reports, the man sustained gunshot wounds to the back and arm during an encounter with law enforcement. He was placed under arrest and remains in police custody at the hospital.
Maryland State Police Trooper 7 responded to the scene and landed at Chancellors Run Regional Park within minutes. Medics requested blood supplies in preparation for flight. The suspect was transported to a trauma center shortly after 6:40 p.m.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it was an officer-involved shooting and urged the public to avoid the area, adding that there was no active threat. Several individuals were detained at the scene for questioning, but no other arrests have been made at this time.
The investigation remained active Wednesday night as deputies secured the area and processed evidence. Authorities have not yet released details about what led to the shooting.
