A Cecil County man wanted for the murder of his girlfriend one week ago was returned to Maryland Saturday, March 31, and served with criminal charges.

The accused is identified as Brian J. Jordan, 25, of the unit block of Bullet Street, Port Deposit, Maryland.ย  Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators returned Jordan to Maryland Saturday morning from Delaware where he was held after his release from Christiana Hospital where he had been treated for self-inflicted stab wounds.ย  Jordan waived extradition in a Delaware hearing on March 29, 2007, and agreed to return to Maryland.ย 

Troopers served an indictment today from the Cecil County Grand Jury that charged Jordan with first and second degree murder and first degree assault.ย  He is being held in the Cecil County Detention Center without bond.ย

Jordan is charged with the murder of Cheryl A. Whalen, 42, of the unit-block of High Street, Port Deposit, Maryland.ย  She was found dead in her apartment early on the morning of March 24, 2007.ย  Whalen had sustained what appeared to be multiple stab wounds to the upper torso.

A motive has not been determined.ย  The investigation is continuing.ย
