A beautiful autumn morning proved to be a perfect day for a race as the 2011 Run to End Hunger was held Saturday, Oct. 22 in Prince Frederick. The 5-kilometer race attracted almost 100 runners and walkers from all three Southern Maryland counties.
The early morning race began and ended at Trinity United Methodist Church. The event raises money for End Hunger in Calvert County, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit dedicated to defeating hunger and helping people become self-sufficient. The organization has 10 food pantry patrons and 19 individuals sit on its advisory board.
The raceโs top finisher was Shane Martz, 29 of Mechanicsville, who completed the course in 18 minutes and 11 seconds. Finishing second was Jordan Blankenship, 14 of St. Leonard, whose time was 19 minutes and 37 seconds. Placing third was German Albalopez of Great Mills, with a time of 20 minutes and 14 seconds.
The top female finisher was Laura Osborne, 15 of Chesapeake Beach, with a time of 22 minutes and 40 seconds. ย Right behind her, with a time of 22 minutes and 41 seconds was Sarah Osborne, 13 of Chesapeake Beach.
