Maryland Approaching 7,000 COVID-19 Cases; St. Mary's County Breakdown of Cases

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — As of Friday morning at roughly 10 a.m., the Maryland Department of Health(MDH) is confirming a total of 6,968 cases of the novel coronavirus(COVID-19) across the state of Maryland, while there are going to be more results that are presumably still waiting to be confirmed.

This new total means there are 783 newly confirmed cases in the past 24 hours.

Of the confirmed cases, over 1,413 people have ever been hospitalized, and 65 of those were recorded in the past day.

397 previously infected people have been released from their isolation according to MDH, 21 of which have been recorded in the past day.

33 people in the state have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the state’s death toll unfortunately up to 171.

Negative test results also grew, with at least 2,136 negative confirmations in the past day, bring that total to 37,480.

At this time, there are at least 385 officially confirmed cases in the Southern Maryland region. Charles County saw their previously confirmed total of 180 cases rise to 220. In Calvert County, MDH has confirmed 10 more official cases overnight, bringing their total up to 76.

St. Mary’s County now counts cases on a rolling basis, and records from the county show a total of 89 cases now, which is up 13 from Thursday’s update.

A majority of the positive cases across the state are still found in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County. PG County has officially has the most of any county in the state, with an overnight increase of at least 240 cases bringing the total to 1,716.

Since yesterday, Montgomery County saw an increase of at least 174 newly recorded cases, bringing their total to at least 1,388.

Anne Arundel County has also confirmed 49 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing their official total to 554.

On April 9, the total number of confirmed cases by the Maryland Department of Health was at least 6,196. As of April 10, that recorded number is at least 6,986, showing over a 12.7% increase across the state in the past 24 hours.
