HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — A sitting Maryland state delegate is facing a court-ordered judgment exceeding $81,000 tied to unpaid rent associated with a church he leads, according to records filed in Charles County Circuit Court.
Del. Jeffrie E. Long Jr., a Democrat who represents portions of Calvert and Prince George’s counties, is currently seeking reelection in the June primary.
Court documents show the dispute centers on a commercial lease for property on Old Town Road in Huntingtown used by Communion Way of the Cross Church, where Long serves as senior pastor. The lease was originally executed in March 2022 and ran through May 2024.
According to filings, payments required under the agreement were not fully made, leading Primis Bank to initiate legal action. A judge granted a motion for judgment in January 2026, ordering Long to pay $81,500, along with interest and court costs.
Records indicate Long signed both the lease and a subsequent settlement agreement intended to resolve the dispute. That agreement outlined a reduced payment plan totaling $50,000. However, the arrangement collapsed after an early payment was returned due to insufficient funds, prompting the lender to pursue the full balance.
The filings further state that rent remained unpaid despite formal demand, with damages accumulating to more than $65,000 before additional fees and interest were applied.
Court records show a second individual, Juan Denise Mackall, is also named as a co-defendant in the case.
The legal dispute unfolded over more than a year and a half before the court entered judgment.
Long has publicly stated he was unaware of the outstanding debt, despite court records reflecting his involvement in the signed agreements.
