BALTIMORE — Federal immigration authorities say they arrested a Guatemalan national convicted of sexually abusing a child after he was released from a Maryland prison barely a year into a 25-year sentence.

ICE Baltimore announced Feb. 4, 2026, that agents took Anthony Rodriguez-Gregorio, 27, into custody immediately after his release from state confinement. Authorities said Rodriguez-Gregorio is in the United States illegally and is subject to a final order of removal.

Rodriguez-Gregorio was convicted in 2024 of sexually assaulting a minor he had been babysitting. The abuse occurred over a period spanning 2018 to 2019, according to court records. He later entered a guilty plea in Circuit Court and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Despite the length of the sentence, most of the term was suspended under Maryland law. Court records show all but three years were suspended, followed by five years of supervised probation. ICE said he was released after serving just over one year of active incarceration.

Upon his release, ICE officers detained Rodriguez-Gregorio without incident and placed him into immigration custody. Officials said he is classified as a Tier III sex offender and is subject to lifetime sex offender registration and supervision requirements.

ICE did not immediately release information on when removal proceedings will be carried out, but said Rodriguez-Gregorio will remain in federal custody pending deportation.

Court records indicate Rodriguez-Gregorio entered a guilty plea on Oct. 3, 2024, before Judge Robert Edward Cahill Jr. The charge — sexual abuse of a minor involving a household or family-type relationship — is a felony offense under Maryland law.

  1. It’s funny how the Baynet is always writing articles about ICE going after dangerous criminals but fails to address the fact they’ve shot multiple United States citizens with zero criminal records point blank.
