LEONARDTOWN, Md. — On May 14, 2025, the St. Mary’s County Health Department announced that Maryland’s Commission on Public Health (CoPH) will hold a special virtual meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. The meeting will start at 1 p.m. and end around 3 p.m.
The meeting will be held over Zoom, and the link can be found here. The meeting will also be recorded and posted to the website for later viewing.

The St. Mary’s County Health Department released the following public statement discussing the Maryland Commission on Public Health:
“The Maryland Commission on Public Health was established in 2023 to study and make recommendations to improve Maryland’s public health system. The 16-member body is comprised of local health officers, academic partners, thought leaders, and legislators. The Maryland Department of Health is represented by the deputy secretary for public health services, the deputy secretary for behavioral health, and the director of the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities. Many additional leaders and professionals are contributing to the commission’s five workgroups. The commission’s goal is to ensure the public health system is designed to help all Marylanders achieve their best health and a lifetime of wellness. Meetings are held monthly and streamed online. The commission normally addresses a wide range of topics that directly relate to the health and safety of St. Mary’s County, including equity in Medicaid reimbursement, funding for public health initiatives, and strengthening legal protections of public health employees, to take a few examples from recent meetings.
