PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Emergency crews are working Tuesday, February 11, 2025, to assess damage and provide assistance following a confirmed water main break affecting parts of Prince George’s County, officials said.

The Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is coordinating efforts with the county’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to respond to the incident, which has left thousands of residents without reliable water service.

In response to the crisis, fire officials have implemented rural water supply operations to ensure continued fire protection in affected communities. Additionally, volunteer firefighters from St. Mary’s, Charles, and Calvert counties have been called in to staff fire stations while local crews assist with the ongoing emergency.

The Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission (WSSC) has issued a boil water advisory for residents in communities just north and east of Maryland Route 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) and all areas south of the highway. Officials are urging impacted residents to boil their water before consumption and to monitor WSSC’s social media channels and website for updates.

The cause of the water main break remains unclear, and there is no immediate timeline for when full service will be restored. Emergency officials continue to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate necessary repairs.

Residents experiencing water service disruptions or requiring additional assistance are encouraged to contact WSSC Water directly.

For updated maps and additional information relating to the Boil Water Advisory, residents are urged to follow WSSC Water on social media or through the WSSC webpage, www.wsscwater.com.
