
UPDATE: Due to weather, the 24/7 single-lane closure on southbound US 301 approaching Nice/Middleton Bridge will not go into effect until Sunday, Sept. 26, through late fall 2021.

NEWBURG, Md. – Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) will be closing a single lane on southbound US 301 before the Nice Middleton Bridge beginning the week of Sept. 20. The single-lane closure will last until the late fall of 2021 and is part of the construction of the new bridge.
The best times to travel on the bridge on/into weekends include:
โข Friday โ before 11 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
โข Saturday โ before 9 a.m. and after 3 p.m.
โข Sunday โ before 12 p.m. and after 4 p.m.
WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: Crews will be installing foundations for the overhead gantry for future all-electronic tolling collection and new signage approaching the Nice/Middleton Bridge. The work is part of the Maryland Transportation Authorityโs (MDTA) project to build a new US 301 bridge to replace the 80-year-old Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial/Senator Thomas โMacโ Middleton Bridge over the Potomac River. The new, wider, four-lane crossing will open to traffic by early 2023.
