The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a Mechanicsville barn on the night of April 12.

Around 10:00 p.m., Benjamin Hamlet, occupant, discovered the fire and called for help. Forty firefighters led by the Mechanicsville VFD arrived to the scene and worked quickly to extinguish the fully engulfed 50′ X 70′ pole barn fire. After 40 minutes, personnel had the scene under control. Hamlet was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for minor, non-fire related injuries. The overall cost of damage is estimated to be $130,000.
