Oxon Hill, MD – On June 11 at approximately 9:02 p.m. ,the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack received a 911 call in reference to a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle into the back of a tractor trailer, in the area of the Beltway’s inner loop, I-495, north of Route.414, St. Barnabas Road.

Troopers responded and arrived on scene. The collision occurred while both vehicles were in motion in lane two. The motorcycle attempted to squeeze between the witness’ vehicle and the tractor trailer. The motorcycle, operating at an undetermined speed, higher than the posted 55 speed limit failed to reduce its speed and collided into the left rear of the trailer the semi was hauling. The motorcycle then struck the guardrail and continued approximately 100 feet before coming to a stop. The truck driver was not aware that a collision occurred and was flagged over by a witness. Both the witness and truck driver pulled to the shoulder to wait for police contact.

The motorcycle was a 2003 Yamaha YZF-R1 with Maryland Registration, and was operated by its registered owner Abdul W. Robinson, 43 of Temple Hills. Positive identification was made from the Maryland Driver’s License. Prince George’s EMS responded. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene.

The tractor trailer was a 2012 Kenworth with Pennsylvania Registration and was hauling an “East” dump trailer with Pennsylvania Registration. The operator was identified by his New Jersey Driver’s License as Terrence D. Smith, 50. Members of the Maryland State Police Crash Team, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, and personnel from the Medical Examiner Office responded to assist with the investigation.

A witness advised the motorcycle was operating well above the posted 55 mph speed limit and attempted to squeeze between his vehicle that was operating in lane 1 and the above listed Tractor Trailer that was in lane 2. The witness was able to make notification to the Tractor Trailer driver and was able to get him to move to the shoulder. Once stopped, both remained just south of the scene pending contact with troopers to take witness statements.
