On Friday, August 1, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Sarah Elizabeth Brown, 58 of Port Republic, was operating her 1998 Chevrolet Camero traveling southbound in the 3600 Block of Broomes Island Road (state Route 264). Brown attempted to make a left turn into 3790 Broomes Island Road and failed to yield to an oncoming motorcycle.
The Chevrolet was struck at its right rear quarter panel by a 2001 Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic Softail Motorcycle operated by Larry Gordon Hogan II, 43 of Port Republic.
Upon impact, Hogan was ejected from his motorcycle. Police and EMS personal responded within minutes of the crash and found the victim Hogan critically injured in the roadway. The victim, Hogan, was transported by ambulance to the Calvert Memorial Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Brown did not sustain any significant injuries.
Members of the Maryland State Police, Barrack โUโ are conducting the investigation. The southbound and northbound lanes of state Route 264 were closed for approximately 2 hours to safeguard the crash scene and to further the investigation. The Maryland State Highway Administration assisted with re-routing the roadway was reopened at 2:34 p.m.
