WHITE PLAINS, Md. – A 25‑year‑old motorcyclist escaped injury Saturday evening after laying his motorcycle down on Crain Highway and Willets Crossing Road to avoid a vehicle that cut him off.

According to emergency officials, the incident was reported at 6:47 p.m. on April 18, after a passerby told dispatchers they saw a man getting up from the roadway next to a motorcycle. Responding units found the rider conscious, alert and breathing, and walking on his own.

Emergency personnel determined the crash required only basic life support. No transport was needed, and the rider declined further medical care at the scene.

Multiple fire and EMS units responded and were cleared shortly after arrival.

The incident remains under review.

  1. Praise God he knew what to do save his life. Cars need to be alert for motorcycles times time year

  2. You never avoid anything by laying a bike down. You have control only when the rubber is on the road. Staying in control, decelerating, and countersteering to swerve around the hazard is always the best way to survive. Never lay down your bike to try to avoid an accident.

  3. I’m picturing him sliding underneath an 18 wheeler like the movies. Wick would have been able to shift back up to the tires and wheelie while shooting out of it.

  4. Spoken like an experienced rider. Once you’ve ‘went to ground’ you’ve lost all control of where you’re going/ when you’re stopping.
