Several community organizations came together on Saturday to provide food, water, clothing and other services to Nanjemoy residents ahead of Thanksgiving.ย The effort was led by community activist Cornell Posey.
โThis Nanjemoy Community Day was put together by Cornell Posey and Brenda Thomas and they invited people that were from all over the region who have food for the residents and weโre also taking names and numbers to follow up on specific issues,โ Charles County Commissioner Debra Davis (D: 2nd) said.ย โThis is an awesome addition, especially during the holiday season, to determine what people need and hopefully move forward.ย This is awesome.ย This is a great example of what communities can do when they put their minds to it.ย I support them one hundred percent and this canโt be done by government alone.โ
โItโs a beautiful thing,โ Posey said.ย โI brought down a crew from DC that came down with clothes.ย Weโre all working this event for the community of Nanjemoy.ย This is the first time a lot of people have come down but weโll be coming down a lot to fix homes and do things for the community.โ
Brenda Thomas, Eddie Kayne, High Hopes, Southern Maryland Womenโs League and a couple other charities all worked with Posey to make the event happen.
