Doing the job of five, thatโ€™s how a former supervisor characterized Debra Nevin, Calvert County Governmentโ€™s Employee of the Month for August. Nevin, who works in the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, was saluted by the county commissioners at their Aug. 20 meeting.

Nevin has the huge responsibility of maintaining the local sheriffโ€™s officeโ€™s Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) files.

The Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office received its accreditation in 2010 and is reaccredited each year.

โ€œSheโ€™s a valuable employee,โ€ declared Sheriff Mike Evans [R].

โ€œThat certification is very important,โ€ said Commissionersโ€™ President Pat Nutter [R], a retired sheriffโ€™s deputy. โ€œGetting and maintaining that certification is not easy.โ€

In a memo to the commissioners, Employment Recognition Committee Chair Kim Gott explained that Nevin assures โ€œthat proofs are assigned to agency personnelโ€ and she reviews โ€œall submissions for accuracy and completeness.โ€

It was also noted in the memo that last month Nevin received special recognition from CALEA team leaders.

โ€œEvery other [law enforcement] agency has at least five people dedicated to the CALEA process,โ€ stated Tom Hejl, the recently retired assistant sheriff.

Calvert County Government Employees of the Month receive a certificate and a nominal check from the county commissioners, plus become candidates for Employee of the Year.
