New Speed Camera Zone In Calvert County

CALVERT COUNTY, Md. – The Calvert County Safety for Students Enforcement Program is in effect year-round.  The speed cameras will be moved randomly between the school zones.  As a courtesy, the locations of the cameras are posted on the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office website and Facebook page.  The goal of the cameras is to reduce the number of speeding offenses in school zones, reduce accidents in school zones, maximize the enforcement operations of the Sheriff’s Office, and to provide a deterrent to potential future violators.  To this end, a new automated speed enforcement site will be in the 2400 and 2500 block of Solomons Island Road in Huntingtown, in the northbound and southbound school zones of The Calverton School.

The current location of all speed camera enforcement sites consists of:

  1. Huntingtown Elementary School
  1. Northern High School
  1. Northern Middle School
  1. Dowell Elementary School
  1. Mt. Harmony Elementary School
  1. Windy Hill Elementary School
  1. Calvert Country School
  1. Mutual Elementary School
  1. Mill Creek Middle School
  1. Cardinal Hickey Academy
  1. St. Leonard Elementary
  1. The Calverton School

Automated Speed Enforcement Cameras are activated Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in designated school zones.  Violators must be travelling 12 mph over the posted speed limit for the camera to activate and a citation to be issued. A school zone speed camera violation is a $40 fine with no points. Citations are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle.  For a complete list of speed camera locations, go to the Calvert County Sheriff’s website at https://www.calvertcountymd.gov/2066/Speed-Cameras .

  1. Keep them coming Calvert county! Now let’s see them go up every 500-1000 feet along every road

    1. It doesn’t matter who they benefit, what matters is you people slow the F down or open up them wallets

      1. Yep! Wish they had cameras all up and down rt 4! It’s crazy the way people drive anymore. Truly surprised there aren’t more accidents.

  2. They are a damn money grab. We have them down at Windy Hill School and the School is so far off the road you can’t see the buildings. They keep the damn things on even in Summer when school is closed

  3. How about murder cameras ? As this apparently is now an accepted new norm… Actually abnormal.

  4. Thank you! Now, a little dose of rush hour radar in both morning, which I’ve never seen and evening could, maybe, cut down on some of the accident alerts we get.

  5. They should keep them on because impatient, speeding idiots don’t care that kids are at the schools beyond 8-3. There are also before and after school programs, summer camps and weekend games. Drivers need to slow down in school zones. Keep the kids safe. I think speeding Ticket fines should help fund the school in where it was issued.

  6. Calverton isn’t anywhere near the highway, and NO ONE is walking to school anymore. It is a money grab. Rt 4 is Calvert’s beltway, like it or not. This county has major infrastructure issues. You either bring in more bodies to tax them, meaning a population increase with which comes more vehicles or watch your taxes rise. The more people you have, the more congestion you have on our roads. The more lights you install, the more frustrated commuters become and contributes to their erratic driving behaviors. This is NOT about safety, let’s not get it twisted. And if you haven’t seen all the speed traps on Rt 4, you must be a stay at home keyboard warrior. CCSO & MSP run radar in multiple locations daily.
