
LEONARDTOWN, Md. — MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital rang in 2026 with a special arrival on New Year’s Day, welcoming its first newborn of the year, Ariella Melody Stone, and creating a memorable milestone for a local family.
Ariella Melody Stone was born at 12:15 p.m. to Kaylynn Moore of St. Mary’s County and James Stone of Wilmington, North Carolina, becoming the first newborn delivered at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in the new year.

Being born on New Year’s Day is often seen as especially meaningful, symbolizing fresh beginnings, hope and the promise of the year ahead. For families, it marks the start of a new chapter alongside the start of a new year, creating a milestone that feels both personal and celebratory. Babies born on New Year’s are often viewed as a sign of optimism, representing renewal and the excitement of what’s yet to come for both the child and the community.
The proud parents shared their gratitude following Ariella’s arrival.
“Welcoming Ariella as the first baby of 2026 on New Year’s Day at MedStar St. Mary’s was an indescribable blessing and the beautiful answer to a long-awaited prayer,” Moore and Stone told The BayNet. “We truly feel God’s hand in her story and are beyond grateful for the incredible nurses, care team, and the amazing hospital that made her arrival so special. MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital also recognized the milestone in a Facebook post, congratulating Moore and Stone on the birth of the hospital’s first baby of 2026 and celebrating the new year with Ariella’s arrival.
