LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks is accepting registration for a new Youth Roller Hockey program at Leonard Hall Recreation Center, offering instruction for beginner and more experienced players ages 3 to 13.
The program will be held Wednesday evenings from Sept. 16 through Nov. 4, 2026, at Leonard Hall Recreation Center, 23145 Leonard Hall Drive in Leonardtown.
Each participant will receive one hour of rink time per week and will be assigned to either the 5 to 6 p.m. or 6 to 7 p.m. time block. Families will be contacted with their child’s assigned time following registration.
The program is designed to help children develop an interest in hockey while learning the game at their own pace.
Beginners can start on foot and work their way up to skating. Younger children who are not yet skating only need a helmet with face protection, hockey gloves and a stick for the first session.
Intermediate and advanced participants who can already skate will work on higher-level skills. All activities will be nonchecking.
Required equipment for intermediate and advanced players includes skates, leg protection, an athletic supporter, hockey gloves and a helmet with full face protection. Elbow protection is recommended, particularly for newer skaters.
Parents of younger children are welcome and encouraged to join their child on the rink to help with the basics.
Recreation & Parks describes the goal as creating a fun, family-friendly atmosphere where children can learn to enjoy and play hockey regardless of where they are in their development.
Registration Information
The program costs $100 for St. Mary’s County residents and $105 for nonresidents.
Registration is open through noon Sept. 10.
The program requires at least 10 participants and is limited to 45.
