LA PLATA, Md. — A respiratory therapist at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center has been honored for patient safety after recognizing subtle changes in a patient’s condition and quickly activating a Rapid Response Team.
The hospital announced Aug. 20, 2026, that Diana Windsor, RT, received the Shining Star for Patient Safety Award for her actions during what began as a routine treatment.
Windsor noticed concerning changes in the patient and relied on her clinical judgment as the patient’s condition began to deteriorate.
She immediately activated the hospital’s Rapid Response Team, allowing additional medical staff to respond quickly and begin further treatment.
The hospital credited Windsor’s attentiveness and quick decision-making with helping lead to a positive outcome.
The patient later shared a message of gratitude: “Please thank Diana for saving my life.”
Charles Regional recognized Windsor for maintaining close attention to the patient’s condition, avoiding shortcuts and trusting her training and the expertise of the medical team when the situation became critical.
The Shining Star for Patient Safety Award recognizes staff members whose actions reflect a strong commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Windsor works as a respiratory care practitioner at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata.
