
WALDORF, Md. — A Newburg man is facing first-degree assault and illegal firearm possession charges after he allegedly pointed a silver revolver at another man during an argument at a Waldorf apartment complex, according to charging documents.
Benjamin Andrew Havenner IV, 58, of Newburg, was charged with first-degree assault and illegal possession of a regulated firearm.
According to charging documents, police obtained a statement from the complainant on May 4, 2026, about an incident that reportedly happened the previous day at the Ell Lane Apartments in Waldorf.
The complainant reported that Havenner pointed a rusty silver revolver at him during an argument. The complainant told police Havenner was upset that he was not moving his car fast enough and wanted to get out of the parking lot, according to the report.
The victim told police he was in fear for his life because the gun was pointed at his chest, charging documents state. He also told police he and Havenner are roommates and had known each other for years.
Havenner was located on May 4, 2026, on Penns Hill Road near his residence. Havenner told officers during the initial contact that he had a silver revolver in a backpack he was carrying.
Court records show Havenner was initially ordered held without bond on May 4, 2026. He remained held without bond after a bail review hearing before Judge Robert B. Riddle on May 5, then was released on his own recognizance after a second bail review hearing before Judge Sally C. Chester on May 8.
A preliminary hearing is set for June 3, 2026, at Charles District Court.
Under Maryland law, the listed charges carry up to 30 years of incarceration and up to $10,000 in fines if Havenner is convicted and sentenced to the maximum consecutive terms.
