On February 18, The Arc of Southern Maryland staff and consumers welcomed the architects, engineers, contractors, and capital campaign donors to the Open House of the newly renovated Community Resource Center located in the heart of Prince Frederick.ย  The Arc of Southern Maryland board of directors joined forces with staff and consumers to host tours of the 13,000 sq. ft building and all of its amenities. The renovation process was โ€œa labor of loveโ€ jokingly states Dan Fones, Associate Executive Director for The Arc of Southern Maryland.

โ€œThis facility is a representation of The Arc of Southern Marylandโ€™s dedication to building a stronger and more inclusive community for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilitiesโ€ states Harriet Yaffe, The Arc of Southern Maryland Executive Director.ย  Bill Chambers, General Manager for Showplace Arena and The Arc of Southern Marylandโ€™s Capital Campaign Manager said โ€œAlthough we have moved into this beautiful, state of the art building, we are still in the mist of a full fledged capital campaign, and we need the continued support of the entire Southern Maryland community.โ€ย  As a token of appreciation for Bill Chambers and his continued dedication to The Arc of Southern Maryland, Yaffe presented Chambers with a gift certificate to Jerryโ€™s Seafood restaurant located in Prince Frederick.

Since the opening of the Community Resource Center, a number of businesses and organizations have booked space for day time meetings and evening activities. The Calvert Dance Band holds their weekly rehearsals on Mondays evenings, Certified Yoga Instructor, Beth Cory teaches a 1 hour Yoga For All class every Wednesday at noon, which is free for The Arc of Southern Maryland staff and consumers and open to the public for a small donation.ย
