In this weekโ€™s news, a neighborhood braces itself for devastation and, more specifically one street was turned upside down in an instant after a comment made by Mitt Romney during the first presidential debate. After Romney made it clear that he would cut funding for PBS, residents of Mr. Rogersโ€™ Neighborhood began preparing for the fact that life might change dramatically.

Uptown, Sesame Street was also put on the map when Romney said in response to a question about government that he โ€œliked Big Bird.โ€ย  Mayor bird was unavailable for comment, but a spokesman said; โ€œWe are shocked and saddened to find out that Mr. Romney will be cutting funding for PBS.ย  This will devastate our street, Mr. Rogers neighborhood, and more importantly the millions of pre-schoolers who fuel our economy.โ€ย

When asked to elaborate on his comments, Romney stood beside his threat and went on to say that President Obama had taken the trolley into Make Believe Land and had been there for quite some time and that he is the only one who can deal with the challenges posed by a slowly recovering economy.ย  In response President Obama, who was changing his sweater and shoes said, โ€œDoes he have feelings? I have feelings.โ€

We reached out to the town treasurer over on Sesame Street to ask how the street and town would survive if Romney follows through on his threat to cut PBS.ย  Town Treasurer, the count was quoted as saying, โ€œIf Romney cuts our funding we will have Oneโ€ฆ., one thousand in debt, ahh ahh ahhhh.ย  If it continues into his second year we will have twoโ€ฆtwo thousand in debt, ahh ahh ahhh.โ€

More issues came out during the first presidential debate.ย  President Obamaโ€™s support of same sex marriage had Bert and Ernie virtually standing in line ready to marry.ย  At least until Romneyโ€™s threat sent the two packing, not literally. Lastly Romney mentioned his desire to clean up the countryโ€™s drug programs. At the first word of this Sesame Streetโ€™s economy suffered a blow when the townโ€™s know drug dealer, Snuffalupagous, went into hiding leaving the market empty which, it is feared, will have Thomas the train bringing different elements over onto Sesame Street.ย

With weeks to go until the election, support for Obama on Sesame Street has become palpable.ย  In Mister Rogersโ€™ Neighborhood altogether Obamaโ€™s numbers are on the rise. When asked to comment President Obama said, โ€œItโ€™s a good feeling, the campaign is alive, such a good feeling, weโ€™re growing inside, tomorrow weโ€™ll wake up, ready for change, Romneyโ€™s killed their snappy new day.โ€ In response, Romney said, โ€œIโ€™ll be back, when the day is new, Iโ€™ll have the right kind of change for you.ย  My policy plans, they canโ€™t be talked about, because, theyโ€™reโ€ฆ.not&hel
