The University of Mary Washington Eagles cruised to their ninth consecutive win with a 75-49 victory over St. Maryโ€™s (Md.) College in Capital Athletic Conference womenโ€™s basketball action Saturday afternoon in the Athletics and Recreation Center Arena.ย  All but two of the Eaglesโ€™ 13 players notched points in the win.

St. Maryโ€™s (6-8, 1-5 CAC) looks to rebound on January 23 when the Seahawks travel to Baltimore, MD to face Goucher College at 5:30.ย  No. 18 Mary Washington (13-2, 5-1 CAC) will host Catholic University on Tuesday as well at 5:30.

The Eaglesโ€™ junior guard Sarah Flanagan (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) tied for the game-high with 17, while junior center Liz Hickey (Virginia Beach, VA/Bishop Sullivan Catholic) just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Mary Washington dominated from the opening tip-off although the Seahawks briefly held a one-point lead at 16:21 following a three-pointer by junior guard Megan Uglik (Frederick, MD/Linganore).ย  The Eagles mounted a 35-12 run to close out the half as Mary Washington received 13 points from their bench.

Hickey led all players at the half with 10 points as the Eagles grabbed a 42-20 halftime advantage.ย  Mary Washington shot 50% (17-34) from the floor, including 33.3% from downtown, while St. Maryโ€™s was plagued at the free throw line as the Seahawks only made 4-of-12 attempts.

The second half was no different than the first as the Eagles continued their impressive play, leading by their biggest margin of 30 at 5:36.ย  Mary Washington out-rebounded the Seahawks, 46-22, for the game and the Eagles were 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the second half.ย  St. Maryโ€™s improved its free throw percentage in the second half by connecting on 10-of-15.

Mary Washington capitalized on the Seahawksโ€™ 24 turnovers by notching 21 points off them.

Freshman guard Stephanie Saint-Aubin (Upper Marlboro, MD/Elizabeth Seton) led SMCM with a game-high 17 points and Uglik finished the game with 16.ย  Junior forward Lisa Daciek (Laurel, MD/Atholton) contributed eight rebounds.
