With one unanimous vote Calvert County Commissionersโ€™ President Pat Nutter [R] and board Vice President Steven R. Weems [R] were re-elected to those posts for a second consecutive year. The vote was taken at the commissionersโ€™ last board meeting of the year, Tuesday, Dec. 17.

โ€œI feel humbled by that,โ€ said Nutter of the boardโ€™s decision. Nutter thanked Commissioner Gerald W. โ€œJerryโ€ Clark [R] and Commissioner Susan Shaw [R] โ€œfor their wisdom and guidance.โ€ Clark and Shaw are both serving their third terms while Nutter, Weems and Commissioner Evan K. Slaughenhoupt Jr. [R] are all in their first terms on the board.

Shaw served as the board president during most of 2011 while Clark was commissionersโ€™ president during most of 2012.

No major changes were made to the commissionersโ€™ assignments on other boards and committees, although Slaughenhouptโ€™s role representing Calvert at the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) will be greater in 2014. Slaughenhoupt was chosen one of the 16 members of MACoโ€™s Board of Directors.

โ€œHeโ€™s very dedicated and he works very hard,โ€ said Shaw of Slaughenhouptโ€™s previous work with MACo. Both Slaughenhoupt and Shaw attended MACoโ€™s winter conference last week.

Weems will become president of the Tri-County of Southern Maryland effective Jan. 1.

Noting that she will not be seeking reelection in 2014, Shaw reminded the other commissioners that there will eventually be a need for Calvert to have new representation on the Tri-County Councilโ€™s Veterans Committee.
