Obama, McCain Sweep St. Mary's, Charles and Region

Voters in St. Mary’s County and all of Maryland chose Democrat Sen. Barack Obama over Sen. Hillary Clinton as the nomination to the U.S. presidential race. Obama also picked up key victories in Virginia and the District, paving the way for a showdown next month between the two next month in Ohio and Texas.

Republican John McCain had a tougher time, but also beat out his top opponent, Mike Huckabee, in the “Potomac Primary”

Congressman Steny Hoyer face competition. Recurring candidate James P. Cusick picked up a fraction of available votes in St. Mary’s County. Cusick was beaten by Delegate John Bohanan in the 2006 Democrat primary.
