Caesar Goodson

Baltimore, MD – Officer Caesar Goodson was found not guilty on Thursday of all charges in connection with Freddie Gray’s death while in police custody.

Officer Goodson, the driver of the van that transported Gray to the police station last year after his arrest, faced charges of second-degree depraved heart murder, manslaughter, second-degree assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment.

The prosecution alleged that Gray sustained a spinal injury because Goodson failed to securely fasten Gray into the police van and deliberately lurched the car to make the ride uncomfortable—and dangerous—for Gray.

Goodson is one of six officers charged in connection with Gray’s death, and was facing the most serious charges. The two prior cases resulted in a hung jury and an acquittal.

The trials for the other three officers charged are set to begin in July and September.
