Officer Seizes Loaded Handgun During Traffic Stop in Severn

SEVERN, Md. — On August 1, 2024, at approximately 12:20 p.m., an officer from the Anne Arundel County Police Department conducted a routine traffic stop on a blue Acura in the 1100 block of Reece Road. The traffic stop, however, quickly escalated when the officer discovered a loaded Springfield handgun in the possession of a passenger.

The passenger, identified as Rashard Marquise Dixon, a 19-year-old male from Baltimore, was found to be prohibited from possessing firearms. Dixon was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple firearm-related offenses, including possession of a loaded handgun on person, possession of a handgun on person, possession of illegal ammunition, possession of a handgun in a vehicle, possession of a loaded handgun in a vehicle, illegal possession of a registered firearm x2, and possession of a firearm by a minor.

Following his arrest, Dixon appeared before Associate Judge Kemp W. Hammond of the District Court of Maryland, District 7, Anne Arundel County, for a bond hearing on August 2. Judge Hammond ordered Dixon to be held without bond.

  1. Congrats to Judge Hammond. Finally a Judge that realizes that these knuckleheads carrying firearms are a danger to the citizens. Protect the citizens by keeping them incarcerated. Thanks Judge.
