Officers Slightly Injured in Struggle with Wanted Man

At 7:38 p.m. Dec. 1, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Penny’s Tavern on Hawthorne Road, Indian Head, for a suspicious person report.

Officers arrived to find Lawrence Lowell Muschette, 41, of La Plata, who had a warrant for unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and theft more than $500.

Four officers attempted to arrest Muschette, but he resisted.

A brief struggle ensued, and Muschette assaulted three officers, police say.

Sgt. M. Harman and Officers Davidson, O’Shields and Caldwell subdued Muschette and placed him under arrest. A search turned up crack cocaine.

Muschette was charged with resisting arrest, two counts of second degree assault, possession of cocaine and malicious destruction of property.

He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. The officers sustained minor injuries.
