At 12:23 p.m. Dec. 2, a motor vehicle accident on Hollywood Rd.in the area of Barnsby Ln. near Hollywood turned into a minor HazMat incident, officials say.
A tractor trailer used for hauling water collided with a SUV that was parked on the side of the road. Theย tractor trailer left the roadway and stopped in a marshy wooded area near a stream.
The fuel tanks on the truck started leaking diesel fuel into the marsh area and into the stream. Units from Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department dispatched the HazMat Unit from the Naval Air Warfare Center at Pax River (Co. 13).
Units from the St. Maryโs County Department of Public Safety and from Pax River arrived on scene and assisted the Hollywood V.F.D. in placing boom in the creek to stop the spread of the fuel in the stream and placing pop up pools and absorbent pads in the marsh area to collect and absorb the fuel that continued to leak from the saddle tanks.
The Maryland Department of Environment also responded to the scene and off loaded the remaining fuel from the truck as well as assisting the Hollywood V.F.D.
Units cleared the scene and were back in service at 5:30 p.m.
