Barbara Ivey with the Nonprofit Institute at CSM greets patrons in support of #GiveTuesday at Olde Town Pub

ย

Leonardtown, MD – Nov. 29, #GivingTuesday kicked off the season of charitable giving. This past Tuesday, many focused their end-of-the-year giving towards helping build stronger nonprofits. In efforts to stimulate fundraising support and encourage networking, the Olde Town Pub in Leonardtown sponsored an event on behalf of Southern Maryland Gives.

Olde Towne Pub will divide 10 percent of all sales received throughout the day on Nov. 29 between three nonprofit organizations.

Southern Maryland Gives is an online fundraising platform sponsored by the Nonprofit Institute at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM). It was created to foster the spirit of keeping it local by giving back to the Southern Maryland community.

The Non-profit Institute at CSM welcomed patrons at the Olde Towe Pub in Leonardtown between 4 and 7 p.m. Anyone from a nonprofit organization was asked to put their business card into theย bucket to participate in the drawing.

This was an excellent opportunity to socialize and mingle with others in Southern Maryland in an informal atmosphere, who are making a difference.
Tuesday was a busy night at the Olde Town Pub. Barbara Ivey from the Nonprofit Institute at CSM said, โ€œI have been amazed at how many people come here in the evenings to have small meetings.โ€ She told TheBayNet.com that last year this social/fundraising event was held during the day at lunchtime and the attendance was not as she hoped.

Ivey told TheBayNet.com โ€œSeveral local nonprofit groups have stopped by the table to drop their businessย card in the bucket. We have seen Southern Maryland Mediation Center, Southern Maryland Community Resources, Leadership Southern Mayland and the Naval Air Museum.โ€

If you missed the event on Nov. 29, it is never too late to support a nonprofit through Southern Maryland Gives.Donors can choose from a growing pool of more than 60 local nonprofits and more than 30 specific projects. Southern Maryland Gives on the web: www.southernmarylandgives.org.
