UPDATE – On Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022 at approximately 8:43 pm, patrol deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision on Baptist Church Road in the area of Hidden Acres Court in Mechanicsville. A 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was located off of the roadway in the woods. The operator, William Spencer Hill, age 50 of Mechanicsville, was extracted from the vehicle with CPR in progress. Hill was later pronounced deceased by EMS personnel.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene. Initial investigation determined the vehicle was traveling northbound on Baptist Church Road when the vehicle ran off the roadway after coming around a bend in the road. Upon leaving the roadway, the vehicle struck several trees and overturned.

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — We are receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle accident this evening off of Baptist Church Road.

At approximately 8:45 p.m. on January 9, first responders were called to the scene of the crash on Baptist Church Road in the area of Hidden Acres Court. Initial reports indicated that one vehicle had overturned and left a single occupant trapped.

Upon arrival, crews located the vehicle on its roof, off the roadway and into the woods. 

Crews worked diligently to extricate the patient from the vehicle, and completed extrication after 15 minutes. CPR was initiated immediately after extrication was complete.

A helicopter was called for the individual from the Maryland State Police Aviation, however it was grounded due to bad weather conditions soon after.

Unfortunately, the patient was pronounced deceased on the scene soon after.

The road is expected to be closed for an extended period of time for an investigation by police. Avoid the area if possible and use caution if you are in the area.
