Bowie, MD – Shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday morning, Jan. 7, the Maryland State Police, College Park Barrack responded to a single vehicle collision at eastbound Route 50 (John Hanson Highway) at the exit ramp to Route 197 (Collington Road), Bowie. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Honda Accord was located overturned in a containment pond off the left shoulder of the exit ramp to Route 197 between Route 50 in the gore area.

The driverโ€™s name was Ibrahim Sow, 29, Bowie. Sow was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Medical Examinerโ€™s Office. There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Next of kin has been notified.

Maryland State Police, Crash Team re-constructionist conducted the detailed crash reconstruction. Preliminary investigation revealed that driver impairment might have contributed to this collision. The cause of the collision is still under investigation but this seems to be a single vehicle collision with no other vehicle involved.

The ramp was practically closed throughout this investigation but the right shoulder was available for passing traffic. The State Highway Administration handled the lane closures.

BOWIE, MD – Fire officials said later Saturday morning, Jan. 7 that one person has been found dead inside an overturned car in an icy pond in Prince Georgeโ€™s County.

The Prince Georgeโ€™s County Fire Department says the car was found in a water retention pond in Bowie. The department says one person was found dead in the car.

Fire Department Spokesman Mark Brady says itโ€™s unclear when the crash happened. He says officials do not yet know whether icy roads may have caused the crash.

Brady stated in a message on Twitter that the Maryland State Police are investigating the incident.
