PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Optimist Club of Calvert recognized four local high school graduates as its 2026 scholarship recipients during the club’s July dinner meeting, awarding a total of $20,000 to students pursuing higher education.
My Nguyen, a recent graduate of Calvert High School, received the 2026 Les Knapp Scholarship, valued at $8,000. Nguyen plans to pursue a pre-med course of study.
Lucas Grover, a graduate of Northern High School, received the 2026 Jim King Scholarship, valued at $6,000. Grover plans to study political science, economics or a combination of the two.
Madilyn Espenschade, a recent Calvert High School graduate, received the 2026 Robert Chaney Scholarship, valued at $3,000. She plans to study early childhood education.
Danielle Sypolt, a recent Northern High School graduate, was selected as the club’s first recipient of the Andrew Jackson “Jack” Brown Scholarship, valued at $3,000. Sypolt plans to pursue a career in criminal justice and law enforcement. She has also committed to playing softball at Newberry College.
