Davon Jones of Dunkirk was shot to death last September in Annapolis

Annapolis, MD – Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Wes Adams announced October 9 that Circuit Court Judge Michele D. Jaklitsch sentenced Demari Kareem Crowdy, 19, of Arnold, to 40 years in prison and Brandon Demon Johnson, 23, of Annapolis, to 15 years in prison for the second-degree murder of Davon Jones, 25 of Dunkirk.

“These defendants stole the life of another human being in an act of unimaginable violence,” said Adams. “While I know nothing could quell the loss of a loved one, I hope the family of Mr. Jones is able to find some solace in the knowledge that his murderers have been brought to justice.”

On September 3, 2016, police responded to Brooke Court in Annapolis for a report of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers located a parked vehicle with a single occupant found to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Surveillance video from the area of the homicide shows the shooter, identified as Demari Crowdy, standing with a group of people near the 800 block of Brooke Court prior to the incident. Upon seeing the victim driving on Brooke Court, Crowdy approaches another member of the group, identified as Brandon Johnson.

Johnson is seen handing Crowdy a gun. Crowdy then runs to the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle and fires multiple shots. Crowdy and Johnson flee in the same direction.

Crowdy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a crime of violence, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm on July 26. He was sentenced to 55 years in prison suspend all but 40 years of active incarceration, and five years of supervised probation upon release.

For his role in passing the gun to Crowdy, Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and use of a firearm in commission of a crime of violence on August 18. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison suspend all but 15 years of active incarceration, and five years of supervised probation upon release.

Jaklitsch presided over these cases. Deputy State’s Attorney Jonathon Church and Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Palmer prosecuted these cases on behalf of the citizens of Anne Arundel County.

Upon seeing the victim driving on Brooke Court, Crowdy secures a gun from another man, runs to the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle, and fires multiple shots.The path Crowdy took throughout the incident is under video surveillance.

Crowdy faces up to 55 years in prison as a result of these convictions. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 10.

Judge Michele D. Jaklitsch presided over the case. Deputy State’s Attorney Jonathon Church and Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Palmer prosecuted the case on behalf of the citizens of Anne Arundel County.
