At 3:47 a.m. Dec. 31, TFC L. Nims of the Leonardtown barrack was working a stationary speed assignment on Beck Road at Route 235, Hollywood, when he observed a vehicle to be exceeding the posted 55 mph speed limit.

When the driver was contacted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected emitting from his breath. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUI.

The occupants of the vehicle were asked to exit the vehicle so a probable cause search could be performed. The rear passenger, Douglas Raymond Culbert, 20, of Great Mills, advised he had a “pipe” in his left front pants pocket and marijuana in his right sock.

The items were located and Culbert was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.Culbert was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and held pending a bail review.
