The library is going to the dogs! Come join us Calvert Library, Prince Frederick as children have the opportunity to “Paws to Read”. Members of the Chesapeake Kennel Club and friends will bring therapy dogs to listen to a child read. Studies have shown that petting animals can lower blood pressure, calm stress, and draw out a lonely or depressed person. Dogs sit or lie close and listen quietly as children read aloud to them, creating a calm, encouraging environment. It’s the ultimate in nonjudgmental support, with the added bonus of nice, soft fur. The program runs from 2 – 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan 9.
Suggested for beginning or reluctant readers. Registration is required.
