LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – Commander Metzler of the DAV Chapter #26 has helped hundreds of veterans get through the paperwork needed as they are discharged from serving our country. Mr. Metzler is an Army Veteran from the Vietnam War era who has been living in his home for 27 years with his wife, children and dogs. Recently Mr. Metzler needed a little helping hand himself; due to a medical issue that left him with the need for a ramp, which would enable him to enter/exit his home.ย

An employee and a volunteer of Patuxent Habitat saw a Facebook posting that told ofย  Mr. Meltzer’sโ€™ need for a ramp ASAP. Mr. Metzler met the qualifications for theย ย  Patuxent Habitat for Humanity Veterans Critical Repair Program and with the help of the PAX NAS CPOA volunteers the ramp was started on the coldest Thursday to date, and finished Friday and Saturday as the snow was falling!

The Patuxent Habitat for Humanity Veteran Critical Repair Program is designed to repair homes for military veterans and their families. The program will assist with repairs identified in Habitatโ€™s Critical Home Repair guidelines that may vary from roof repair and structural wall repairs to installing wheel chair ramps and remodeling bathrooms to be easily used by veterans with disabilities. If you would like to donate or volunteer for any projects including the veteran programs please call Laurie at 301-863-6227 email laurie@patuxenthabitat.org for more information.
