GLEN BURNIE, Md. – Police are investigating the identity of a man who was killed while attempting to cross Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie on Saturday evening.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police, the man was crossing Ritchie Highway just before 6 pm when he was hit by a southbound vehicle.

Police said the man crossed outside a crosswalk in a very dark area. He wore all dark clothing with no reflective elements. Additionally, police said he was either bent over or crouched down in the center lane of the highway when the vehicle struck him.

The impact threw him into the grass median in the center of the road. The driver immediately stopped and called 911. Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. The man had no identification. Police said they would attempt to identify him from fingerprints. 

The driver was not injured. Police said the preliminary cause of the accident is pedestrian error.
