Personalized Therapy, LLC is an Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy
outpatient clinic located in California, MD. They treat both children and adults.                                                                                             A large portion of the children they treat are affected by Autism.
They started hosting this annual event in support of the families and children
affected by Autism. They receive ZERO Profit for this event as they do not
deduct anything from the expenses that they may incur. 100% of donations are
given out!
 
Personalized Therapy, LLC is the only organization that hosts an annual
Autism Awareness Day in the Southern Maryland area. April is Autism
Awareness Month, so they host it every April. In fact, April 2, 2011 is “World
Autism Awareness Day”. This year the event is being held on April 16, 2011
from 12:00 to 5:00 pm at the Olde Town Pub in Leonardtown, MD. Olde Town
Pub donates 10% of all proceeds (Food and drinks) back to them so that they may
donate to local organizations that support families affected by Autism.
These organizations include the Arc of Southern Maryland, The Autism Support
Group of Southern Maryland, and the Learning Disabilities Association. All
other donations received are directly from people or companies in the
community or generated by raffle tickets sold by them for gifts donated by
vendors. The raffle tickets are drawn and gifts are given out the day of
the event. Non-profit organizations, professionals, and parents are
available at this event to share resources, support, and speak with anyone                                                                                             looking to gather information about Autism. They also provide music, games,
and face painting for the kids on that day as well.

What is Autism? What are its common traits?
 

Autism is a devastating neurological and biological disorder that typically
affects children between the ages in 18 months to five years of age. Autism
currently affects 1 in every 91 children today. It is estimated there are
over 1 million people in the United States alone with autism. Autism affects
each individual differently and at different levels of severity. Some people
with autism are severely affected, cannot speak, require constant one-on-one
care, and are never able to live independently. While others who have less
severe symptoms, can communicate, and eventually acquire the necessary
skills to live on their own.
 
Typically, autism affects individuals in five key areas:

* Social skills
* Behaviors
* Learning
