scam alert

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a phone spoofing scam targeting members of our community. Scammers are impersonating Sheriff’s Office personnel and demanding payment for alleged missed court dates, bench warrants, or jury duty absences.

Please be advised that these phone calls are fraudulent. No member of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office will ever contact you by phone or in person to demand payment.

If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and do not share any personal or financial information. These scammers often attempt to create a false sense of urgency or pressure you to act quickly.

Red flags include requests for payment via gift cards, cryptocurrency (such as Bitcoin), or cash transfers through a courier. These are not methods used by any legitimate law enforcement or government agency.

To report a scam call or if you have any concerns, please contact the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office at 410-535-2800.

Please share this message with your family, friends, and neighbors.
