12-Year-Old Flown To Children’s National After Acid Spills On Face In Newburg

NEWBURG, Md. — A 12-year-old boy was flown to Children’s National Hospital on Tuesday evening after acid spilled onto him at a Newburg residence.

The incident was reported around 6:27 p.m. on May 19, 2026, at a home on Sankston Place. Emergency crews were told an acid container spilled over while the boy was reaching for something.

The acid came in contact with several areas of his body, including his face, right leg, arms and neck. Emergency crews reported first-degree burns to about 10% of his body. He was conscious, alert and breathing normally.

Firefighters, EMS personnel and hazmat resources responded to the home. The boy was decontaminated before being flown by U.S. Park Police Eagle 1 to Children’s National Hospital for care. A parent accompanied him on the flight.
