During Hurricane Sandy the southern part of St. Mary’s County was the county’s hardest hit. Power was out in portions of the south county Monday night into Tuesday morning due to a problem at the Hewitt Road substation. There was also a voluntary evacuation of St. George’s Island on Monday.
