Dunkirk, MD – A significant component to a shopping center currently under construction in Northern Calvert County is ready to move off the drawing board. On Wednesday evening, Dec. 13 the Calvert County Planning Commission 5-to-0 to approve an automobile filling station at the Shoppes at Apple Greene. The filling station is part of the Harris Teeter store that will co-anchor the new shopping center in Dunkirk. The gas station project was granted a special exception last fall by the Calvert County Board of Appeals.

According to a memo from principal planner Judy Mackall, “the parking requirement for this project is two spaces per pump plus stacking.” Two additional spaces have been proposed. One of the spots is to be an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-accessible space.

Mackall stated that county government staff has deemed to the project consistent with the Calvert County Comprehensive Plan, the Calvert County Zoning Ordinance, the Dunkirk Town Center Master Plan, and other applicable state and local ordinances and regulations. The Dunkirk Architectural Review Committee has also given its approval of the fuel filling station.

The Shoppes at Apple Greene project is under the ownership of ECHO Apple Greene LLC. The Harris Teeter store will be 48,650 square feet. It is expected to open sometime in 2018. The shopping center also includes a Marshalls, which will be 21,110 square feet. Other smaller retailers are expected to locate within the center. Taco Bell, an iconic fast food eatery is also playing a location at the Shoppes at Apple Greene.
