Youโ€™re invited to witness local college students as they plunge into the frigid St. Maryโ€™s River for the 3rd Annual Polar Bear Splash.
ย
St. Maryโ€™s College of Maryland students, faculty, and staff will plunge into the icy St. Maryโ€™s River in an effort to raise awareness about climate change. Will Baker, president of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, is also expected to participate.

The Polar Bear Splash will take place on Thursday, Feb. 12, beginning at 4 p.m., with actual splash at 4:30.

Participants will gather near the new James P. Muldoon River Center along Route 5, St. Maryโ€™s City.

The Polar Bear Plunge is an event that started in 2007 as an effort by the collegeโ€™s Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC) to raise awareness of climate change and global warming.ย  Participants will line up along the waterfront and rush into the water, trying to rescue a โ€œpolar bearโ€ on a kayak before returning to the shoreline to warm up.
