Southern Maryland law enforcement has had its hands full with several marijuana arrests recently.

St. Mary’s County Deputy Brian Connelly conducted a vehicle stop in California area for possible impairment. Upon contacting the operator of the vehicle it, he determined that the driver had some form of impairment other than alcohol. Suspect Scotty Ray Mallette, 30, of Lexington Park)performed the roadside tests and failed them. A Drug Recognition Expert was summoned to evaluate Mallette, and Mallette was arrested for operating the vehicle while under the influence of a drugs. A search incident to that arrested revealed a quantity of marijuana.

While investigating an alcohol violation on Flower Court in Mechanicsville, St. Mary’s County Deputy Jason Graves found that Daniel Alan Faucette, 21, of Mechanicsville was in possession of marijuana.ย Faucette was arrested and charged with the violation.

On May 23 atย 10:20 p.m.,ย Troopers Bodnar and Dawson of the Maryland State Police were called to assist Sgt. Barth with a traffic stop on Route 261 inย Chesapeake Beach.ย The operator, Ronald Bruce Moore, Jr., 20, of Lothian, was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. Incident to arrest, aย drug smoking device containing suspected marijuana was located in the vehicle.ย Moore was additionally charged with possession of marijuana andย drug paraphernalia. After processing, he was transported to theย Calvert County Detention Centerย to await a commissionerโ€™s hearing.

On May 25 atย 1:16 a.m. onย Route 261 in Chesapeake Beach, Trooper Chirichella stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation.ย Upon contact with the occupants, the odor of suspected marijuana was detected.ย A search was conducted, and a baggie of suspected marijuana was located under the driverโ€™s seat.ย  Arrested at that time for possession of marijuana andย drug paraphernalia was Thomas Jerome Hobbs, Jr., 21, of Waldorf.ย  After processing,ย Hobbs was transported to the Calvert County Detention Centerย to await a commissionerโ€™s hearing.

On Saturday, May 26 at 1:55 p.m., Trooper Trossbach initiated a traffic stop on a blue Honda Preludeย on Route 238 at Bushwood City Road in Bushwood.ย Contact was made with the driver, Blakie Neil Jones II,ย 19, of Bushwood and a strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle.ย  During the course of the traffic stop, Jones was found to be in possession of a plastic bag of marijuana and two partially burnt marijuana cigars.ย Jones was arrested for possession of marijuana andย drug paraphernalia and transported to the St. Maryโ€™s County Detention Center pending a bond review.
