Leonardtown, MD – Planning is underway to upgrade Wieck’s playground at Miedzinski Park in Leonardtown. The public will have an opportunity to share comments and ideas at a planning meeting, scheduled for Thursday, October 5 at 5:30 p.m.. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the October Recreation and Parks Citizen Advisory Board meeting inside the Chesapeake Building. The address is 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown.

The Department of Recreation and Parks has assembled a committee of several of the park’s original Project Playground volunteers, citizens and Recreation and Parks Advisory Board members to work with staff on the project.

The project’s goal is to make necessary safety and ADA upgrades while maintaining the park’s history and the playground’s “fantasy” theme. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources awarded a $200,000 FY18 Community Parks and Playground grant to help pay for playground improvements. County commissioners approved capital funds in FY17 for the project.

Citizens unable to attend the October 5 meeting, but wish to submit comments and ideas for the project, can call Recreations and Parks at 301-475-4200, ext. *1811 or email Kathy Bailey.
