Former Charles County Public School music educator and past president of The Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA), Robert Rausch visited the St. Charles Children’s Learning Center at the College of Southern Maryland as a “Celebrity Reader” on March 27. Rausch read two books, “Magic Box” by Katie Cleminson and “Song and Dance Man” by Karen Ackerman with illustrations by Stephen Gammell.
Rausch, of Waldorf, was the band teacher at Milton Somers Middle School for 17 years and he was the founder and first president of the CCAA in 1987. Since his retirement in 2007, he has performed in several productions at Port Tobacco Players, the Newtowne Players, Tantallon Community Players and an independent film as well as with the CSM Theatre Company. He is currently performing in CSM’s Cause Theatre, “The Laramie Project,” which continues March 29-31 on the La Plata Campus.
Following Rausch’s reading Lynn Duff, director of the CLC, gave Rausch a tour of the center.
The Children’s Learning Center nurtures and enhances the lives of children and their parents by creating an environment that helps children interact with their world and peers, and building confidence, self-esteem and a life-long love of learning.
