Charmaine Richardson is a 20 year old single mom of a 2 year old daughter named A’mani, and is 5 months pregnant with her new baby boy. She graduated from Southern High School in Harwood, Md in 2009 where she ran Track and was on both the Dance and Cheer Squad and she is also a Black Belt in Tae kwon do.

On December 3, 2011 Charmaine was on her way home from Sojourner Douglas College and was sitting at a stop sign on Stephney’s Lane and Solomon’s Island Road when a Toyota Camry, southbound on Solomon’s Island Road rear ended a 2007 Ford Focus and continued into the turn lane for Stepney’s Lane when it struck a Charmaine’s 1991 Honda Accord on the driver’s side. The force of the impact broke the Accord in half and Charmaine was ejected from the vehicle. The Toyota Camry continued up a grass embankment striking a tree and overturning onto its roof before coming to rest. Charmaine was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma with critical injuries. Charmaine had a tear in her liver and blood in her lungs as well as a spinal cord injury in which her T4, T5, and T6 vertebrae where broken from the accident and the doctors have said that she will never walk again. She is now at the Kernan Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Center to prepare for her new life in a wheelchair and she has to work a lot on upper body strength to get herself in and out of her wheelchair.

To keep family and friends apprised of her condition, a Face Book page called Strength*Hope*Courage has been created and has exploded with people sending thoughts and prayers.
