Fishing is excellent in southern Maryland with spot, hardhead, white perch, and now trout.
Both speckled and gray seatrout have been responsive to trolled bucktails this week. Speckled trout are mixed with some fine rockfish from No Pont Light to the Targets on the 40 foot edge on the western shore side. The trout are 18 to 27 inches and the rockfish are up to 32 inches. Small bucktails trolled slowly right on the bottom is the key. Gray trout are in the mouth of the Patuxent at Point Patience , also mixed with hefty rockfish. Trollers using small white bucktails discovered the trout late last week. The lures must be presented directly on the bottom in about 40 feet. The furious tides at Point Patience mean that trolling here at depth will have to be done during the slack time tides.
White perch are plentiful, big and eager to bite in the Patuxent in Kingston Hollow.
